Texture Gallery - "Collaging" with Tissue Paper

This texture was created using acrylic paper (with canvas texture), white Acrylic Gesso primer, tissue paper and two acrylic paint colours.

Tissue paper

Detailed close-up

The acrylic paper surface was first prepared and painted with one thin layer of acrylic gesso. (two layers would have covered the original canvas texture)

Next, small bits of ripped tissue paper were collaged on to the surface with layers of gesso primer acting as an adhesive. Several more layer of tissue paper was then collaged on top of each other and covered with the gesso primer. When the collaged was dry, a wash of deep violet acrylic paint mixed with pink was painted over the surface.

Artist Notes:
Tissue paper is usually available from the art shop in many different colours, and can be used to create different colour tones and variations in the under-laying collage.

As tissue paper is very thin and transparent, three layers of paper and gesso are normally required to create a visible effect.
