Texture Gallery - Using Sea salt

This texture was created with a layer of Acrylic gesso, sea salt, three acrylic colour, and a sheet of acrylic paper.

Detailed close-up

First, a thick layer of Acrylic Gesso was applied to a sheet of acrylic paper and allowed to dry. Phthalo blue acrylic paint and sea salt were then mixed together on an artist palette and applied to the primed paper with a thick paint brush.

After the first layer of sea salt and Phthalo Blue paint was dry, a new acrylic colour, Leaf green, was mixed together with more sea salt and applied in certain areas of the painting for highlights.

At last, a third colour, Phthalo Green, was applied in thick layers in some areas while the previous layer was still wet.

Acrylic Matte Varnish was later painted on to protect the textured areas of the painting.

Artist Notes:
Instead of sea salt, regular salt or sugar could be used to produce a finer texture.
