Texture Gallery - Using tiny Glass Beads

This texture was created with Acrylic Gesso, a pack of small glass beads, three different acrylic colours, and a sheet of acrylic paper.

Glass Beads

Detailed close-up

First, a thick layer of acrylic gesso was applied to a sheet of acrylic paper.

While the gesso was still wet, small glass beads were spread randomly on top, covering the whole sheet.

When the gesso was dry, a light wash of Cadmium Red (mixed with plenty of water) was applied over the beads.

When the red paint was dry, a new wash of Cadmium Scarlet and Yellow Ochre was painted randomly in separate areas over the texture and left to dry.

At last, Phthalo Green was applied with a dry brush, just touching the "top" of the glass beads.

Artist Notes:
The paint layers need to be completely dry before the next layer can be applied!

A piece of cardboard or a paletteknife can be used to push the glass beads deeper into the surface.

Modeling paste could have been used instead of gesso.
