Texture Gallery - Using Using Yarn

This texture was created with a layer of Acrylic Gesso, Yarn (cut into small pieces), three different acrylic colours, and a sheet of acrylic paper.

Yarn

Detailed close-up

First, a thick layer of Acrylic Gesso was applied to a sheet of acrylic paper.

While the gesso was still wet, yarn (which had been cut into small pieces with a pair of scissors) were spread randomly on top and arranged into the desired design.

The yarn were lightly pressed into the gesso with a palette knife and left to dry for a for half an hour until the gesso was dry. (time depending on room temperature)

When the texture was dry, further 3 layers of gesso, mixed with plenty of water, were applied on top of the yarn until the whole texture was covered with gesso.

A wash of Orange acrylic paint mixed with Cadmium Red was then applied, covering the whole surface.

At last, Yellow Ochre was applied with a dry brush, just touching the "top" of the texture.

Artist Notes:
The layers of gesso and paint need to be completely dry before the next layer can be applied!

Different thickness'es, types and qualities of yarn will make a variation of texture.
