Texture Gallery - Using Artist Sponges

This texture was created with a layer of acrylic gesso, sesame seeds (normally used for cooking/baking), two different acrylic colours and a sheet of acrylic paper.

Artist Sponge

Detailed close-up

First, a layer of acrylic gesso was applied to a sheet of acrylic paper with a paint brush.

When the gesso was dry, three layers of Phthalo Blue acrylic paint (directly from the tube) was applied with an artist sponge. (the paint was allowed to dry between each layer)

Next, Cobalt Blue mixed with a small amount of water was applied over the Phthalo Blue paint using the same sponge to create a variation in background colour.

When the paint was dry, a wash of Light Blue was applied with a large brush, covering the whole surface.

Artist Notes:
Modeling paste or Texture paste could have been mixed with the acrylic paint to create more texture.
