Texture Gallery - Using Brush strokes

This texture was created with a layer of acrylic gesso, a large acrylic brush, three different acrylic colours, and a sheet of acrylic paper.

Paint brush

Detailed close-up

First, a thick layer of acrylic gesso was applied to a sheet of acrylic paper.

After the gesso was dry, a thick layer of Leaf Green acrylic paint was applied with a large acrylic brush.

The paint was used directly from the tube, no water added, and was painted in heavy textured layers with the brush moving in different directions.

When the Leaf Green paint layer was dry, a wash of Burnt Sienna was applied on top, covering the whole surface and then left to dry for a couple of minutes until semi-dry.

A sheet of tissue paper was then used to "polish" lightly over the surface to remove any excess paint.

Next, a wash of Lemon Yellow was applied with a smaller brush in some areas for highlights, and the excess paint removed with tissue paper in the same way as the previous colour.

Artist Notes:
Modeling paste or Texture paste could have been mixed with the acrylic paint to create even heavier brush marks.
