Texture Gallery - Using Paper strips

This texture was created with white Acrylic gesso, paper strips (used in packaging), two different acrylic colours, and a sheet of acrylic paper.

Paper strips

Detailed close-up

First, a thick layer of white acrylic gesso was applied to a sheet of acrylic paper.

While the gesso was still wet, strips of paper were spread randomly on top, covering the whole surface.

When the gesso was dry, another layer of gesso was applied on top to cover all the paper strips, and the texture was left to dry for an hour.(drying time depending on room temperature)

Two layers of Phthalo Blue was then applied on top, covering the whole surface.

Last, a light wash of Deep Violet was painted over the blue colour.

Artist Notes:
The paper strips used in this texture were from packaging used by some retailers.

Tissue paper or other thin paper-materials could have been cut into thin strips and used as an alternative.

Two layers of Phthalo Blue was used to make sure the white gesso was covered completely.

One layer would have provided more transparency if more white (or highlights) were desired.
