Texture Gallery - Using Sand

This texture was created with a layer of Modeling Paste, Sand (from the beach), three different acrylic colours and a sheet of acrylic paper.

Sand

Detailed close-up

First, a thick layer of Modeling Paste was applied to a sheet of acrylic paper.

While the modeling paste was still wet, white sand was spread on top and gently mixed into the paste with a Palette/Painting Knife.

The surface was then flattened with the painting knife and the modeling paste/sand mixture was left to dry for an hour. (time depending on room temperature)

A layer of Burnt Umber was then applied, covering the whole surface.

Next a light wash of Cadmium Red Deep (Hue) and Yellow Ochre was painted over the Burnt Umber.

Artist Notes:
Acrylic gesso could also have been used instead of the Modeling Paste.
