Texture Gallery - Using Eggshells

This texture was created with broken egg shells from four eggs, Burnt Sienna and Raw Umber acrylic colour, white acrylic gesso and a sheet of acrylic paper

Broken eggshells

Detailed close-up

First, a couple of egg shells were washed and dried before broken up into small pieces.

The A4 sized acrylic paper was then prepared with one thick layer of white Acrylic Gesso.

While the primer was still wet, the broken egg shells was carefully spread over the paper, covering the whole surface

The texture was then left to dry for a short while.

After the primer was dry, a wash of Raw Umber and Burnt Sienna acrylic paint was painted over the egg shells.

Artist Notes:
The egg shells needs to be completely clean and dry before use.

A painting knife can be used to carefully flatten and arrange the egg shells on the surface.

Instead of spreading the egg shells on top of the primer, they could be mixed with the paint before application.
