Texture Gallery - Using Clingfilm

This texture was created by using two sheets of acrylic paper, white Acrylic Gesso Primer, three different acrylic colours and a sheet of cling film.

Imprint on cling film

Detailed close-up

First, a thick layer of Acrylic Gesso was applied to a sheet of acrylic paper and allowed to dry.

Next, a thick layer of Cadmium Red acrylic paint was painted over the gesso, covering the whole surface.

While the Cadmium red paint were drying, a separate sheet of paper (same size) was prepared and painted with thick layers of Yellow Ochre and Phthalo Green in the desired pattern.

Next, a sheet cling film was pressed over the painted area while the yellow and green paint were still wet.

The cling film sheet was then lifted up and quickly moved over to the first sheet of paper and pressed over the dry red paint. (As acrylic paint also act as an adhesive, the cling film will stick to the painting when dry.)

The painting was later varnished for permanent protection.

Artist Notes:
When the cling film is pressed into the wet paint, the cling film sheet can be moved around in different directions to create a variation of textures and patterns.
