Texture Gallery - Using Tea leaves

This texture was created using white acrylic paint, tea leaves, white acrylic gesso primer and a sheet of acrylic paper.

In yellow and brown

Detailed close-up

The acrylic paper was first prepared with 2 layers of acrylic gesso primer before being painted with a thick layer of white acrylic paint.

Next, brown tea leaves were evenly spread over the whole surface while the white paint was still wet.

The texture was then left to dry for an hour before any excess tea leaves were brushed off the surface.

The painting was later varnishes with acrylic matte varnish for permanent protection and to ensure the tea leaves were safely attached to the surface.

Artist Notes:
The texture was later also painted with a wash of yellow Ochre to create a deeper tone and to remove the white areas in the painting.
The tea leaves could also have been painted with acrylic paint before being varnished.

Different types of tea leaves would have created different patterns and colours.
