Texture Gallery - Using dry paintbrush

This texture was created with a large brush, several yellow and brown acrylic colours, tissue paper, white Acrylic gesso primer and a sheet of acrylic paper.

Brush texture

Detailed close-up

The Acrylic gesso primer was first applied to a sheet of acrylic paper in very thick layers using a large brush.

In order to create the visible textures, the brush was pressed several times in the gesso, creating a variation of brush marks.

When the gesso was dry, the whole surface was painted over with Lemon Yellow acrylic paint.

Next, areas of the painting were covered up with tissue paper, and the remaining areas painted with different shades of browns.

When the paint was nearly dry, the painting was polished lightly with tissue paper to remove any excess paint and bring out areas of the Yellow colour underneath.

Artist Notes:
It is very important to make sure the layers of paint are nearly dry before you start polishing. If the paint is too wet, the tissue paper will remove too much of the paint, and if it is too dry, you will not be able to remove any excess paint.
